Free Wheelchair Mission

Director of Manufacturing

Remote

Free Wheelchair Mission is seeking a Director of Manufacturing to continue leading the next chapter of innovation and impact in bringing the gift of mobility to people living with disabilities around the world. This is a meaningful opportunity for a strategic, relationship driven, and technically skilled leader. Building on a two-decade legacy of innovation that began in a Southern California garage, the Director will continue to honor the spirit of ingenuity and faith that has defined Free Wheelchair Mission since its founding. What started with a simple prototype has grown into a global movement of engineers, partners, and donors united to deliver dignity and hope through mobility. Over the past few years, Free Wheelchair Mission’s manufacturing program has matured significantly. Systems, standards, and partnerships are well established, and the next Director will step into a stable, high-functioning environment ready for optimization, innovation, and scale. The Director will oversee all aspects of manufacturing strategy, from research and product development to quality assurance and supplier relationships, ensuring that every wheelchair reflects the heart and standards of Free Wheelchair Mission. This includes overseeing the complex logistics of shipping wheelchair containers and medical supply gift-in-kind donations worldwide, ensuring every container is managed with precision, transparency, and mission-driven care. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this leader will guide a talented team and collaborate closely with colleagues in programs, operations, and finance to drive excellence across design, production, and global distribution.

Why I Love This Opportunity

Free Wheelchair Mission is one of those organizations that stays with you. Their work is simple at first glance,  but the impact runs so much deeper. Every wheelchair represents someone gaining access, freedom, and the chance to be part of their community again.

What I love about this team is their heart. They care deeply about doing the work well, but even more about doing it with integrity and compassion. Their faith shows up in quiet but powerful ways, through the care they take with one another and the people they serve. Behind every container shipped is a story of compassion in motion. The logistics, design, and manufacturing processes all come together to deliver hope—each wheelchair a tangible expression of God’s love and a bridge to dignity and independence.

This is also a moment of incredible momentum. With the launch of the GEN 4 JOY wheelchair and a goal of reaching three million people by 2035, Free Wheelchair Mission is ready for its next chapter. They have built a strong foundation, and the next season will be about growth, innovation, and deeper impact.

There are few places where engineering and faith intersect so tangibly. Every design improvement and quality enhancement ultimately changes a life by lifting someone off the ground, restoring dignity, and creating new opportunities. It’s a rare role where technical precision and compassion work hand in hand.
