Outer West Community Church

Executive Pastor

San Antonio, Texas

Why I Love This Opportunity

Mike Goldsworthy

Associate

Outer West Community Church is a uniquely positioned church in San Antonio. It has a larger facility and congregation than expected for its age, while maintaining a startup culture that is evolving into a more established phase. This creates an exciting opportunity for the right leader. Beyond its organizational growth, the church fosters a distinctive culture—prioritizing unity on core Christian tenets while embracing diversity in secondary matters, allowing for a dynamic and diverse community. It’s a great opportunity for the next Executive Pastor to partner with a Lead Pastor who embodies a non-anxious presence in a dynamic and growing community.

About This Organization

Outer West Community Church is known for its diverse, multi-cultural and multi-generational community, as well as its warm and welcoming atmosphere. We strive to serve our community, with a heart for local and global missions focused on meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those outside the four walls of our church. OWCC is a young church but has established a unique presence in San Antonio since launching in 2022, and is in many ways coming into our own in terms of leadership structure, philosophy, governance, and culture, while averaging about 1100 in attendance in 2025.

Position Description

The Executive Pastor (XP) will serve as a key partner in fulfilling the mission of Outer West Community Church (OWCC) through the vision of the Lead Pastor. The XP provides strategic leadership and operational oversight, ensuring the church’s culture, systems, and practices align with its mission, vision, and values. The XP implements long-range ministry plans, manages day-to-day operations, and oversees key ministry and support staff to ensure operational readiness and foster a collaborative, healthy staff culture. An effective XP is proactive, forward thinking, and able to devise growth strategies that leverage and develop existing resources to help prepare OWCC for future growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide the LP with ongoing visibility into the effectiveness of all church ministries, progress on key initiatives, and any emerging issues.
  • Create and carry out strategic plans encompassing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that align with overall vision and goals.
  • Responsible for overall staff management, including goal setting, performance reviews, onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Ensure operational readiness of OWCC by overseeing all aspects of administration, finance, human resources, and facilities management.
  • Develop annual financial plans that align with ministry goals and meet key financial objectives, working closely with the LP and Elder board to periodically review and reassess church income and expenses in relation to the budget.
  • Motivate and inspire the team toward forward movement as well as a high standard of productivity and effectiveness with mindfulness of their capacity and giftings.
  • Support the development and oversight of new ministry initiatives and programs to ensure the church effectively addresses identified needs and fosters healthy, long-term growth.
  • Serve on the OWCC Preaching Team as requested by the Lead Pastor.

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • This is a great opportunity for a relationally oriented, self-motivated, strategic leader, who has demonstrated experience at an executive level and is passionate about helping to shape a unique and growing church while it is still in its building and growing phase.
  • Demonstrated experience at translating vision and culture into strategy and action
  • Ability to oversee the operations management of the church, being familiar enough to take responsibility for working with outside vendors, able to engage church systems such as policy and legal, budget and finances, facilities, and HR
  • A pastoral presence who is able to allow for the tension of different theological viewpoints, ethnicities, life experiences, socioeconomics, and age
  • The ability to be a second chair leader who can take the Lead Pastor’s vision and collaborate to design and create strategies, systems and initiatives that move forward the church’s vision and culture
  • A proven track record at equipping and empowering both staff and volunteers, proactively helping to develop ministries as well as implementing personal and professional development
