Discover Church began as a dream in the heart of Jernigan and Jessica Schwent. That dream and calling became a reality with its launch in August 2018, where hundreds showed up that first Sunday. It was an incredible start for any church, but especially a church plant in the Northland of Kansas City, where many don’t survive.
With a heart to see the city changed by Jesus, one life at a time, Discover Church not only continued to see new people come to Christ, but they were able to build a solid foundation of people, values, vision and systems. It was this strong foundation that allowed them to not only survive the initial shutdown of Covid, but to thrive in the years since.
Over the last few years, not only has Discover Church made it through Covid and all the challenges churches have seen, but they are thriving. They have seen tremendous growth and with the launch of the Liberty Campus in 2024, they are averaging well over 600 with both campuses.
Since it’s beginning, Discover Church has been on mission to help people discover life in Christ, discover belonging in community, and discover purpose in calling, in order to make a difference. The way to help people live out this mission is by creating a family based culture that seeks to work hard, have fun, honor one another and deepen their relationship with God. The staff culture is one that is community centric and leadership driven, believing that the calling of the staff is Ephesians 4:12, to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry.
Discover Church continues to move forward in faith, believing that the best is yet to come and the mission to impact Kansas City is being expanded.
The Campus Pastor must be someone who thrives in the #2 seat. Someone who can see what needs to change to make the church, and campus, healthier. Someone who can not only tweak, but build systems and processes and help equip others to do the same. This person must have a passion for reaching people through the multi-site model. The Campus Pastor at Discover will get a great experience at recruiting and developing people, building and making better systems, vision casting and preaching, and reaching lost people with the Gospel.
