Why We Love This Opportunity
Central Church is a vibrant and growing community of believers in Collierville, TN, just outside Memphis. Central has a deep commitment to truth and the preaching of God’s word. This will be a great opportunity for someone who wants to join a strong and committed team of Pastors who care deeply about what they do and why they do it. The person who will thrive in this role will view their purpose as a Worship Pastor to be more than just singing songs on Sunday. It will be to truly disciple and care for the people they lead while also maintaining a standard of excellence. When this person gains trust, there is plenty of freedom to lead and pioneer what’s next for the worship ministry of Central Church.
About This Organization
Central Church was born out of the revivalism of the Second Great Awakening. In August of 1896, a tent revival was held in downtown Memphis where God used two powerful preachers to lead many to embrace Jesus Christ as their Savior. These new believers became the core of a new church, Central Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which held its first worship service on October 22, 1896.
God blessed Central’s faithfulness to Scripture by bringing more and more people who were hungry to hear God’s Word preached clearly and dynamically. The church quickly outgrew its space at its Poplar Avenue campus, and so it built a larger campus at 6655 Winchester Road, which it moved into on March 29, 1981. Additional building phases at this campus resulted in a multipurpose facility and sports complex that drew many people in from the surrounding communities. Recognizing the eastward growth of the Memphis metropolitan area, Central’s leadership decided to move to the rapidly-expanding town of Collierville in 2001 and completed its present facility in Collierville in 2003.
The Worship Ministry Core Values are: Be God-Centered. Be Authentic. Be Unifying. Be Hungry. Be Multiplying. Be Creative.
The Worship Pastor’s responsibilities will be to multiply and mature disciples of Jesus Christ by shepherding, leading, and building a biblical community of worshipers at Central Church.
The Worship Pastor is someone who sees the purpose of the Sunday morning worship services as seeking to reach both believers and unbelievers. Additionally, Central prefers someone who respects diverse musical tastes from traditional hymns to contemporary Christian music and is able to blend those where appropriate.
