Why We Love This Opportunity
Canton First Baptist is a place where people can connect with God and followers of Jesus. It’s a place where people grow as disciples, learn to serve others, and live on mission. During the past 3 years, the church has recognized significant growth and has adjusted their strategy to meet the challenges of the current day while continuing to focus on Gospel advancement.
Church or Org Description
Canton First Baptist Church is one of the largest churches in beautiful Cherokee County, GA with a history of missional and church planting involvement. Located in the middle of a rapidly growing suburban area of Atlanta, it is situated on 55 acres of land overlooking the Hickory Log Creek Reservoir. They view their 1000+ seat worship space as the sending point for church plants and missionaries into the world. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the average weekend worship attendance was 600 which had increased from 400 since just 2 years prior.
Currently in a pattern of incremental, healthy growth, Canton First Baptist is establishing a more clearly defined vision and mission for the future. In the past, two different services were offered for this multigenerational congregation. One was a blended experience led by choir and orchestra, while the other was modern and led by a band and small group of vocalists. Since returning to in-person gatherings, they have provided one style of musical worship in both hours and have plans to move into the future with a unified expression of worship. This will be a forward-leaning, blended expression using choir, orchestra/band with a mix of current worship songs and hymnody.
The health of the worship ministry at Canton First Baptist is strong, especially in light of COVID-19 and the current online and on-campus challenges it creates. Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak the worship team had consistent participation from approximately 70 volunteers and leaders. In the future, Canton First Baptist desires to continue developing an enthusiastic worship ministry which celebrates the redemptive work of Christ. The Worship Pastor will serve as part of the pastoral staff and will report directly to the Senior Pastor. The new leader will be responsible for all things related to worship ministry and technical/media department.
Canton First Baptist values worship that is engaging and participatory with intentional flow that brings worshipers along a journey. The Worship Pastor should be forward-leaning, musically, with a passion for blending modern, band-driven worship music and hymns with a modern worship choir and orchestra. This leader should have the experience necessary to skillfully lead a choir, band, and instrumentalist team. Authentic and relational, the Worship Pastor should desire to engage with people of differing ages and stages of life. Not simply a musician, this leader should have the heart of a pastor and worshipper who invites others into worship alongside.
