Why We Love This Opportunity
If you are a trained music pastor, who loves all forms of music, and desires a diverse church setting this could be for you. Twin City is looking for a worship & outreach pastor who can lead a variety of styles of music, engage a congregation in worship AND loves the mission field across the street from a major university.
Twin City Bible Church is unique. In 1933, during the depth of the Great Depression, four families gathered with a vision to reach University of Illinois students with the message of Jesus Christ. Decades later, this church of 400 is passionate about reaching both community and campus.
Any worthwhile endeavor like this will also bring its own challenges. How do you reach both demographics? How do you ensure parity while also following God’s call at each and every moment? How do you integrate these two people groups towards mission together? This is the beautiful tension brought about by this mission and the right Worship & Outreach Pastor will have a continuous vision for how all of this works and the ability to effectively communicate in a manner which brings everyone together and on mission.
When the Sunday morning worship set includes an American praise song translated into Mandarin Chinese and taught to the congregation or a chorus is sung in Spanish, you know this is a church with a heart for the global church.
The worship ministry at TCBC is unique. The team uses modern songs, rich hymns, and diverse instrumentation to engage a diverse congregation of both age, race, and nationality. There is a large team of instrumentalists and singers enough to make two teams.
There is also a rotation of capable worship leaders. The service is not necessarily liturgical but does nod towards the historic church with elements of a call to worship, scripture reading and response.
THE OUTREACH MINISTRY
The outreach ministry is the second hat that the next staff leader will need to wear. The church is looking for one who has the vision to mobilize people, get church-wide engagement in evangelism, and buy-in and help others see the campus as the mission.
The worship ministry will be 70% of the position at the beginning, but as a rhythm is established a more balanced approached is anticipated.
The right candidate will be:
// producer/arranger mindset
// a trained musician and comfortable in a highly educated context
// a team builder and equipper
// one who can build systems and processes for planning
