Why We Love This Opportunity
There is nothing more inspiring than when the people of God lay their lives down for the Kingdom of God in the earth. We see expressions of this all over the world, but a very special work is being done in the wonderful, growing city of Des Moines, Iowa. Valley Church is a place not content with just “having church” but reaching into the community and mobilizing fully devoted followers of Christ. For over 30 years, this church of 2200+ has been doing just that and not slowing down any time soon. The new Worship Director of Valley Church has a strategic opportunity to join a thriving church and lead a talented, high-capacity team into an exciting future.
Valley Church is an influential, mission-centered church in the heart of West Des Moines. Valley Church started in 1990, when 3 couples began meeting. Quintin Stieff soon became the Church-Planting Pastor. Living out a desire to do good works, to build good will, to share good news, the church has grown to 2200+ weekly attenders with a $5.6 million budget. In 2000 the church constructed their current 70,000 sq. ft. facility and they now host six weekly worship services and countless ministry activities during the week.
In 2013 they opened the Valley Community Center as a gift to the community. They seek to create good will in the community through good works and partnership, to reach diverse groups, and ultimately to impact as many as possible in the Des Moines area. The Valley Community Center anchors a 35-acre campus across the street from the church and welcomes more than 150,000 community guests annually. The church has a unyielding passion to love their community, as evidenced by the over 8,000 participants in Love You Des Moines Days, a signature series of events that demonstrates their deep love for their neighbors
The Worship Director at Valley Church is a strategic role, focused on fostering a passionate worship culture and developing leaders across the department. In this new season, Valley is excited about fostering a more engaging, vibrant worship culture – a place where the people of God are fully engaged in passionate worship. The Worship Director, above all, needs to be a shepherd of the congregation and have the ability to pastor the room, drawing them into worship. Valley Church is a worshiping community, in need of a leader who approaches worship with pastoral sensitivity, creative ideas, and musical proficiency. This a place that values hard work, creativity, experimentation, and risk taking.
As Valley Church continues to grow, The Worship Director will also need to develop leaders and build teams. The team consists of multiple worship staff and over 80 volunteers between worship and production. The Worship Director will foster the worship culture across multiple venues throughout the campus every weekend, but will primarily lead worship in the main auditorium.
