Student Pastor

Glen Ellyn,

Why We Love This Opportunity

Parkview Community Church is a church of conviction: Grace, not Guilt; Relationship, not Religion. The church embodies transparency, seeing themselves as imperfect people surrendering daily to the love and grace offered freely by Jesus. Building on this DNA, they’re gearing up for a transformational future by forming a powerhouse Family Ministry Team!

Church or Org Description

As soon as you set foot on the grounds, you know Parkview Community Church lives up to its name. The modernized campus reflects both the ministry’s deep roots and progressive footprint in a primarily wealthy, suburban, faith-familiar culture. For over 50 years, the church has grown alongside the people of DuPage County, always seeking to be invitational, soulful, formational, and compassionate. Today, Parkview Community Church has 1,200 people engaged weekly – both online and onsite – in dynamic worship, practical biblical teaching, and “everyone’s welcome as is” relationships.

Parkview Community Church is known for meeting churched and unchurched people from all walks of life where they’re at. Many that have been damaged by religion find hope and healing in its community. The ever-growing population of young families love the vibrant next-gen ministries and thriving group life. The church models openness and inclusivity with the surrounding culture, but never at the expense of God’s truth and grace. They’re known for hosting the highest quality experiences for all ages, including a one-of-a-kind summer day camp for kids. Local leadership also recognizes them for faithfully linking arms with impoverished communities, under-resourced schools, and distressed people nearby that easily get overlooked.

Position Description

Before COVID-19, Parkview regularly hosted 300 kids, 50 middle schoolers, and 20 high schoolers in its weekly programming. Now, given all that’s shifting for children, teens, and parents, Family Pastor Josh Afram is spearheading a new team to crack the code on effective next-gen ministry in and through Parkview long into the future.

DuPage County has a rich history of student ministry. This is a blessing and a curse. Glen Ellyn and neighboring towns are saturated with fatigued youth ministry programming inside and outside church walls. Parkview has a fantastic facility, but the leadership recognizes a new day is dawning if a church is really serious about meeting students where they’re at. The Family Ministry Team needs a Student Pastor that will mine the culture, step into the worlds of 6th-12th graders, rally passionate lay leaders, and figure out disruptive ministry innovations that will captivate the minds and hearts of today’s – not yesterday’s – suburban teenagers. Parkview’s student ministry needs longterm wins. This will require aligned strategy within children’s and family ministries, but also across the church. The Student Pastor will be asked to provide tested and proven ministry structures that are strategic, sustainable, and scalable.
