Pastor of Student Ministry
We’re already loving Portico Church! It is intentional, Gospel-focused and all about planting churches in new communities to reach people who are far from God. The staff culture is one that promotes a continual growth in spiritual maturity, evangelism and relational health. It’s the perfect time to join what God is doing in and through Portico as the Pastor of Student Ministry!
Founded in 2004, Portico is a thriving and gospel focused church with a great story and big dreams. Portico exists to “Create churches for future generations”. An Elder-led church, Portico is part of the Acts19 Network of churches (www.acts29.com). At Portico there is an obvious desire to settle for nothing less than biblical, authentic and relevant teaching and a meaningful worship experience for all who gather.
Portico’s Missional Distinctives are to invest in marriages, champion racial reconciliation, demonstrate mercy, and reach and raise up future generations.
Portico has just over 500 people walking in their doors each weekend, worshiping together, and experiencing growth in their lives and in their walk with the Lord. They are reaching young families, students and nearby University of Virginia students, and making an impact on the surrounding communities, meeting the felt needs of their neighbors and city of Charlottesville.
A rare local “Townie”, Lead and Founding Pastor, Chris Atwell, is leading his team with great vision and authenticity. He strives to live in the grace of the Gospel, creating opportunities to plant churches and bring biblically strong content to the Sunday sermons.
Portico is looking for a Pastor of Student Ministry to serve Jesus and His Church by providing leadership over the Portico Student Ministries, including oversight of middle school, high school and college.
Portico’s student ministry is poised for the right leader to disciple the kids who are coming and create an effective outreach to impact more students. The ministry is achieved through Sunday night gatherings where students come to worship, hear a biblical teaching, and build memories through fun and relationships.
This diverse ministry has students from different schools, ethnicities, family situations, and socio-economic backgrounds. Currently around 2 dozen kids are involved. Under the right leadership this ministry could quickly and easily be more than double this size.
The Pastor of Student Ministry must be:
• Committed to his own personal leadership and spiritual growth
• A leader who has a love for students
• Able to connect well with parents and adult volunteers
• Gifted in preaching the Word in a relevant and engaging style
• A self-starter who is humble and hungry
• Highly organized while staying flexible
Requirements for the Student Pastor
• Bachelors degree preferred
• 3+ years experience in ministry
• Aligned with the Acts 29 Theological Core Values
