Church or Org Description
Citylife Church seeks to expand God’s Kingdom in the city of Boston and beyond. Citylife hope’s to bring renewal in every sphere of life by the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The desire of Citylife is to foster a community of love that reaches out with the historic Christian truths of the Gospel. Citylife welcome’s skeptics, seekers, and those who share the church’s vision to be a Gospel-oriented, outwardly-faced community of God’s grace.
Citylife Church is a new church for the city of Boston. The launch team began meeting weekly for prayer with Dr. Stephen Um during the fall of 2001. From its first-morning worship service in January 2002, Citylife has rapidly grown into a vibrant, multi-site, multi-ethnic congregation that seeks to reach the needs of the city. Citylife isn’t new in the structure of its beliefs, however. Citylife wholeheartedly embraces the historic Christian faith expressed in all the ecumenical creeds of the universal church (e.g., the Apostles’ & Nicene Creeds).
Citylife Church is also committed to the historic Presbyterian form of the Christian tradition by its subscription to the Westminster Confession of Faith.
The Executive Director/Pastor will take a lead role in strategic planning and executing the vision of Citylife Church to be a generative congregation that reaches the neighborhoods of metro-Boston with the gospel. The ED will provide primary executive leadership to the Citylife staff and congregation by setting annual and long term goals with the SP, and strategically aligning the Citylife staff towards reaching those goals.
The EP will also develop strategic partnerships with partner ministries such as TGC New England, The Center for Gospel Culture, Emmanuel Gospel Center as well as other like-minded churches.
Other responsibilities will include overseeing and developing mid to entry-level pastors (for pastor candidates only; e.g. mentored ministry), cultivating a healthy staff culture, driving annual planning and budgeting processes, interfacing with the Session, working with centralized functions (finance,HR, etc.), and establishing strong communication with the congregation. The EP will work as a partner and advisor to the SP in his various work areas.
Strong organizational leadership and management background, problem-solving and decision making abilities, proven organizational skills, flexibility in a fluid environment, initiative, team building and leadership development in a complex multi-dimensional organization are essential.
Experience living and ministering in a major urban context a plus.
