Why We Love This Opportunity
To advance the purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, this position will manage the Urbana Integrated Marketing and Communications Strategies team, produce high-quality communication tools serving InterVarsity’s mission, and promote the programmatic, recruitment, and overall goals for Urbana 21, while collaborating as a core member of the Urbana Leadership Team.
God has used Urbana to inspire generations of students to give their whole lives to his global mission. Their commitment to extend the challenging invitation to serve long-term in God’s mission around the world has fueled 25 Urbana Student Missions Conferences since 1946. Each Urbana seeks to meet young adults where they are—in the reality of their current contexts, needs, and struggles.
Urbana mobilizes young adults into God’s global mission—beginning in their current setting and continuing throughout their lives.
As a triennial conference hosted InterVarsity and fully dependent upon InterVarsity, Urbana has lived out its’ calling as a student missions conference for decades. When Urbana moved from the University of Illinois’ campus in Urbana to St. Louis—a place and space with significantly greater capacity to host such a large event—it was hoped that Urbana would grow. In response to a slightly downward trend in attendance over the past five events, InterVarsity’s President (and the former director of the event) formed a Task Force to explore Urbana’s long-term future and suggest possible alternative business models. One significant remedy was to increase the marketing budget and, in turn, leverage better marketing practices to expand their reach.
