Why We Love This Opportunity
For any leader looking to join a team who is wholeheartedly committed to being the best version of themselves both individually and together, there is no better opportunity than this role at Eastside Community Church. The team at Eastside has spent many years passionately pursuing the culture and impact they are currently experiencing and the future is bright in Richmond & beyond. There is also the almost untapped opportunity to reach the over 15,000 students who attend Eastern Kentucky University right down the road!
Eastside started in 1982 as a mission from Broadway Baptist Church. The church was incorporated in 1988. Eastside built her first facility at 1675 E. Main Street, and had its first service on 12/31/1989. The church was planted with the purpose of reaching young families with children. In 1990, Eastside called Virgil Grant as their senior pastor. The church quickly outgrew their 1675 E. Main location and in 2002 they relocated to 2010 Catalpa Loop. Following the relocation of the church, Eastside struggled in breaking the barrier of 300 people in attendance for the next 10 years.
Beginning in 2012, the church started exploding in growth. Eastside went from 250 people in attendance to 929 in attendance prior to Covid. The church is now non-denominational, with baptist roots and traditions. Eastside is known for the deep relationships it has, both inside and outside the church. Community is their middle name and they seek to be 100% involved in the life of their community. They are highly intentional, through relationships and shepherding, about the next steps for those that walk through the doors at Eastside. They have a young staff team and the average member at Eastside is mid-30’s with kids.
Eastside Community Church has a vision of reaching 2% of their surrounding community for Christ, including every age-specific demographic. Eastern Kentucky University sits right up the road from Eastside, boasting an enrollment of over 15,000 students. Eastside currently has a core life group of approximately 30 of those students but the team won’t rest until the minstry of Eastside is impacting at least ten times that number! There is currently no local church in the Richmond area who is making significant inroads into the EKU population and Eastside feels a charge in their souls that says, “Why not us, Lord?”
Eastside Community Church is seeking a leader who will join the team as a primary weekend teaching voice. This portion of the role won’t be rushed, chemistry is EVERYTHING at Eastside, but the explicit desire is that, after a successful onboarding and cultural assimilation, this leader will be the #2 communicator in partnership with Pastor Virgil. Eastside has a dynamic, down-to-earth, relational communication style. The right leader for this role will not only be passionate about preaching & teaching, they will desire to see those abilites developed & empowered in other team members.
