There aren’t many places in the United States more family-focused than Carmel, Indiana. Venture Christian Church sits right in the heart of Hamilton County and reaches 1,000 people weekly through its on-site and online worship services. The pastoral and lay leadership teams do a tremendous job rallying together in order to reach the community. With so many kids and families nearby, it’s the prime opportunity for an innovative Children’s Minister to dive in and take things to the next level!
Venture Christian Church exists to help more people get to know Jesus and live like Him every day and has an average weekly attendance of 1,000 people. This 51 year-old ministry has a strong leadership foundation, with only two senior pastors since 1989 and many longstanding ministry staff. God brought Lead Pastor Stan Killebrew to Venture in March 2019, at which time he and Senior Pastor Mark Wright overlapped for a five-month succession season. Executive Pastor Daniel Shelton joined the team in June 2019 to bring strategic alignment to the staff and ministries.
The current Children’s Minister has faithfully established Venture Kids (~200 kids weekly) and Venture Christian Preschool for nearly two decades. As he transitions to focus on the preschool and pastoral care, whoever steps into the role of Children’s Minister is set up well for success. 40% of Venture Christian Church’s stellar facility is dedicated to ministry with kids. Both the church and surrounding community are 100% dedicated to reaching and serving families. Venture, of course, has the good news of Jesus and eternal life in God’s Kingdom at its core.
Venture Kids’ mission is to lead children to a deeper understanding of God’s Word and develop a relationship with His son, Jesus, so they can live more like him every day. Venture Kids supports and serves children birth through 6th grade and their families. It has a strong foundation with many faithful leaders serving in the ministry. The person God brings to guide the ministry needs to be someone who values people and is gifted in establishing highly equipped teams.
Venture also needs a Children’s Minister who can and will be a champion for kids and families. They’re looking for a compelling servant leader to steer the ministry strategically and effectively invite others to join the mission. Given all that Carmel, Indiana has to offer kids and parents, Venture wants to bring on someone who will build bridges, not try to compete with, the prevalent family-focused culture. Finally, it’s important for Venture to have an aligned approach to ministry with infants through young adults. The next Children’s Minister, working alongside the Executive Pastor and Student Minister, will be invited to speak into what discipleship and disciple-making requires when it comes to kids, families, and leaders.
