Worship Arts Pastor
Greenwood Community Church
|Church Description *|
|Greenwood Community Church is a growing, inter-generational congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church established in 1991. They are Evangelical and Reformed in theology and egalitarian in leadership. “We are a relationally-driven, Word and Spirit community committed to worship, transformation, and missional living,” says Lead Pastor Doug Brown. Relationships are key, and are evident even on one of the headers of the website which reads ‘we try not to take ourselves too seriously, but we do take Jesus seriously!’
“We have jokingly called ourselves Presby-costal,” laughs lead Pastor Doug Brown, “Our services are eclectic; they’re contemporary, but follow a liturgical order. But we also want to be sensitive and respond to the Spirit’s leading.”
The worship at GCC is a gospel-centric mix of ancient/modern. The service will most often include liturgical elements including a call to worship, prayers of confession, and creeds. The services are not designed for seekers, yet are planned with seekers in mind. “We want to be people who love Jesus, lift Him up, show His beauty and glory and in doing so people will be drawn to Him,” says Kay. The church engages well with modern songs as well as rich hymns. Lyrics matter, as does theology.
