Why I Love This Opportunity

Chris Lagerlof

Senior Associate

I love Compass Church and it’s passion for students and families. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with as passion to build a ministry in a church that is growing and impacting their community. If you’re passionate about the next generation and want to lead a strong ministry with fantastic staff, volunteers, and facilities then this opportunity might be for you!

About This Organization

Compass Church was founded in 1869 as a Presbyterian church. For most of their 150+ year history, they were called The First Presbyterian Church of Salinas.

In the last decade, the congregation moved away from the PCUSA denomination and became aligned with the ECO Presbyterian denomination. That is also when the church name was changed to Compass Church.

Compass is intentionally evangelistic at its core. Hundreds of people come to faith in Jesus each year through the work and efforts of the Compass congregation.

Five years ago, the church opened its first satellite campus in Marina, one of the fastest-growing towns on the central coast. Compass has always been passionate about presenting God’s word in today’s world.

Compass is a unique church that is diverse in both age and ethnicity.

In the last few years, 435 people have become Christians at Compass, almost 200 last year alone. More than 60% of new members are either by conversion or reaffirmation of faith.

Compass Church’s strategy for winning people’s allegiance to Jesus is working — being a lighthouse in their communities, with people driving as far as 60 miles to worship.
