South Suburban Evangelical Free Church is a friendly, engaging congregation in the South Metro region of Minneapolis-St. Paul that’s dedicated to being and making disciples of all nations. The church resides in an ever-growing area that draws young families with kids. Its weekend service and midweek ministries throughout the week offer meaningful connection points for biblical teaching, transformational community, and practical serving opportunities. Currently, South Suburban Evangelical Free Church has an average weekend attendance of 300. It offers one intergenerational contemporary worship service on Sundays, with Community Life classes for all ages beforehand, and children’s ministry during both hours. Throughout the week, people from all walks of life participate in small groups and ministries. The church partners with Awana, homeschool co-ops, and Bible Study Fellowship, serving hundreds in the community weekly. Building on its local ministry and passion for global missions, South Suburban EFC is stepping out to serve kids and families with greater intentionality in this next season.
The Pastor of Family Ministries needs to be a leader of leaders if South Suburban Evangelical Free Church is going to reach and connect families effectively. He must have a heartbeat and vision for supporting spiritual and relational growth, particularly in the context of families and community groups. The Pastor of Family Ministries will provide strategic leadership and oversight to the church’s Connect and Grow ministries-ages infant through senior adults. Specifically, this includes the Community Groups and Children’s Ministries that happen each weekend and during the week.
Knowing that the building of a network of small and mid-size groups will take a team, the Pastor of Family Ministries needs to have an equip and mentor approach to leading people and ministries. He will have the passion, gifts, experience and resources to build into, release and multiply leaders for ministry to families. While there is some operational infrastructure toward this end, the Pastor of Family Ministries will need to identify leaders and incorporate systems that foster relational, spiritual, and numerical growth. Optimally, he will have the aspirations of senior-level leadership and be willing to partner with the current Senior Pastor as God fulfills those aspirations.
