Director of Finance–Central American Region
Founded in 1952, Compassion International is a Christian child development organization headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA that works to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Compassion revolutionized the fight against global poverty by working exclusively with the Church to lift children out of spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. The Regional Director of Finance oversees all finance functions of the Central American Region, including accounting, treasury, and planning & analysis. This position works cross-culturally, directing up to eight countries on finance and accounting related matters. They assist in implementing standard processes across the region while ensuring alignment with global processes. They represent Finance on their regional leadership team and work cross-functionally with other leaders. This position directly supervises two regional senior managers (who oversee three field accountants in each country office) and oversees the culture of staff care for all Finance staff in the Central America Region. In short, they are the “point person” for all financial matters in the region.
The ideal candidate would be bilingual (Spanish and English) and would not merely have an accounting background, but would also have general financial management skills and experience. They will have experience working across cultures and demonstrate strong relational and communication skills outside of the finance area, as Compassion in a large, complex and diverse organization with the need for effective communication both at the corporate and field/program levels. And as Compassion is preparing to implement a new finance system globally, he/she must work effectively in an environment of change and have the ability to lead and love their team well through change.
He/she will have already played a key leadership role in an international NGO/development organization or multi-cultural corporation and be more “big picture” than “specialist”. They should live in (or be willing to relocate to) one of the Central American countries where Compassion works: Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Guatemala or Nicaragua. They will be someone who deeply loves Jesus, is a servant leader with a calling for children in poverty, and who wants to use his/her God-given gifts, talents and experiences to positively impact millions of children, helping them to be released from poverty in Jesus’ name.
