Director of Community Bridges
Valley Community Center
Valley Community Center – a beautiful 30,000 square foot multi–use facility on a scenic 35–acre campus – aims to become a hub for partnerships doing good for the community…with the community. Five years ago, neighboring Valley Church founded the Community Center as a gift to the community, to fulfill their desire to mobilize everyone’s God–given potential to deeply love Christ and their neighbors. Now they are seeking the next Director of Community Bridges to take responsibility for the community engagement strategies of Valley Church, and expand and encourage partnerships in greater Des Moines, Iowa using the Community Center as a hub.
These partnerships encourage community betterment in these four areas:
- Service: Promoting volunteerism as a way of life
- Relationships: Building healthy families and friendships.
- Compassion: Meeting needs of the unserved and underserved.
- Wellness: Equipping people to grow strong in body, mind and spirit.
The right leader has a strategic opportunity to mobilize a willing army of volunteers uniquely positioned and resourced to love their community in the name of Christ.
VCC is owned and operated by Valley Church as a gift to the community. The facility and the work of the center is an expression of the church’s highest calling: to love God and to love their neighbors. The budget of the Community Center is provided almost entirely through the generosity of the church as a regular line item in their $4.7 million annual budget. The Community Bridges budget is currently $1.1 million and is further resourced through the support services of the church, including operations, facilities, communications, graphic design, and IT, for example. The Community Center currently employees 3 full–time staff, 2 part–time staff and numerous volunteer leaders.
The facility includes a large coffee shop (seats 125+) and multi–purpose event hall with basketball and volleyball courts for recreation and can quickly be transformed into a carpeted venue seating up to 1250 people. It has a children’s play area, kitchen, meeting areas and ample sports fields, and partners with over 30 organizations in the community for the common good of Des Moines, including Adaptive Sports Iowa, Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity, Iowa Senior Games, LSI (nonprofit human services agency), Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa, Special Olympics Iowa, Tim Tebow Foundation, West Des Moines Library, West Des Moines Parks & Recreation and many more.
The Director of Community Bridges is responsible for directing the community engagement strategies of Valley Church. The Director is one of the top leadership positions at Valley Church and oversees, strategizes and mobilizes all our community bridges efforts, including:
- Community partnerships
- Ministry partnerships
- Local compassion efforts
- Community service/outreach
- Programming (in service, relationship–building, compassion, wellness) at the Community Center.
The Director mobilizes Valley Church attenders to love all their neighbors and to reach the target audience of Des Moines area residents who are unchurched and who represent a more diverse population (in nationality, ethnicity, disability, socioeconomic, etc.) than are currently served.
A competitive annual salary, benefits and relocation costs are offered for the right candidate.
