The MET Church
Join a thriving church in the 4th largest and most diverse city in the United States—with a population of 2.2 million and more than 145 different spoken languages. The Communications Director will play a critical role in establishing the face of The MET Church in the community while ensuring channels of communication and branding clearly and consistently represent their mission, vision and values.
The MET Church was founded in 1965 as Fellowship Baptist Church when 15 families pursued God’s vision to make a place for people in NW Houston to connect with Jesus and build meaningful relationships with other believers. This passion to connect people to Christ fueled the church’s growth over the next 15 years at one point becoming known as the fastest growing church in the Gulf Coast region. In 2006, The MET purchased 100 acres in Cypress with a vision to reach people in the rapidly expanding northwest corridor. Today, The MET is 1 church in 2 locations averaging more than 3,000 adults each weekend between both campuses.
The MET’s unwavering commitment is to disciple others through meaningful relationships who will go and make disciples of Jesus. Leadership at The MET Church strongly believes Sunday mornings are important, but consider themselves a discipleship-first church. Because “Sunday is second,” weekend services exist to get people in the door and connected to others so they can be discipled through relationships in small groups. The MET Church is a part of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention and the Relational Discipleship Network.
Creating and sustaining a healthy staff culture is a priority for senior leadership, resulting in a collaborative work environment that was certified as a Best Christian Workplace in 2017 by Best Christian Workplaces Institute. These core virtues are lived out by staff:
- Be Humble
- Be Effective
- Live in Awe
- Fight for Relationship
- Seek Truth
The opportunity at The MET Church is to join a healthy staff that strives to amplify the mission and strategy of the organization and senior leadership as they live out the core virtues. They need someone who has a strong track record of building effective and sustainable communication strategies, systems and structures. The MET understands the need to leverage technology and the digital tools of web, social media, podcasts, and video to effectively engage hearts and minds.
This person will lead the charge in helping them reposition their brand identity through a social media strategy and web redesign that reflects the heart and mission of The MET. The Communications Director will need a high level of emotional intelligence as they work closely with senior leadership and ministry leaders.
The ideal candidate will leverage their gifts, talents, and influence for the Kingdom—an individual personally committed to being discipled and discipling others. They will be a catalyst for positive change and comfortable in a player-coach—setting the strategy, leading the function with vendors/partners, but also a willing doer. A strong work ethic with a passion and vision for helping others is key to success at The MET Church.
